with james, jessie has a mutually deluding and therefore
somewhat supportive relationship wherein they are entirely codependent
at this point; i don’t really see how jessie nor james can function without
the other ( for too long, at least ) since without the other, they’d have
nothing left but the harsh reality of just how many times they've failed at
everything in life.
on the other hand, with giovanni, jessie is sort of forced to face
her own failure and he disapproves, yet allows it all the same,
simultaneously. there’s no mask or delusion of grandeur she can hide
behind so she's extremely vulnerable, all the time, and she can’t get away
with anything, but there’s a convoluted kind of acceptance for who she is,
and how she is, and her dependence upon him is very much one-sided
( yet at the same time, he’s the one who still keeps her around; allows her
to continue to fail, right so… )
it’s just interesting to see how acceptance can be so different;
james and jessie are mutually vulnerable with one another and so they sort
of can collectively ignore reality knowing it’s the elephant in the room that
they’ll never mention, whereas jessie is the one completely disarmed by
giovanni; completely at his mercy but in his allowing her to depend upon
him as heavily as she does, it’s – well, jessie will never have the upper arm
on him, but there is something that sort of binds them mutually together.

“Come oooon. How bout’ we make it a mutual touch fest? Will that help? We can straight up hippie the crap outta’ this. Touch is love—or… somethin’ like that. I dunno’. Just touch my ear—I’ll touch your nose.”
